Clayton Kershaw is staying in Dodger blue, joining the front office.
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to keep a franchise icon close as reports surfaced Friday that recently retired pitcher Clayton Kershaw is joining the organization as a special assistant in the front office.
The news, first reported by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, came just hours before the Dodgers were set to receive their 2025 World Series rings ahead of their matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Kershaw officially retired at the conclusion of the 2025 season, closing the book on a legendary career spent entirely in Los Angeles. Although he was named to Team USA’s roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the selection proved largely ceremonial as he did not appear in a game and was removed prior to the semifinal round.
Even in retirement, Kershaw has wasted little time transitioning into new roles. On Opening Day, he made his broadcasting debut as part of NBC’s retooled Major League Baseball coverage, signaling a continued presence around the game beyond the field.
His move into a front office position follows a familiar pattern for the Dodgers, who have consistently brought back former players in advisory roles.
Chase Utley, who played second base for the club from 2015-19, previously took on a similar role, while veterans like Chris Archer and Nelson Cruz were also incorporated into organizational roles in recent years.
For Kershaw, the transition feels especially fitting given his deep ties to the franchise. Over the course of his career, he established himself as one of the most dominant pitchers of his generation, finishing with a 2.53 ERA across nearly 3,000 innings.
His resume places him among the all-time greats. Kershaw captured three Cy Young Awards and five ERA titles, while also winning the National League MVP Award in 2014 — still the most recent pitcher to earn that honor. He also played a key role in multiple championship runs, further cementing his legacy in Dodger history.
While his playing days have come to an end, Kershaw’s impact on the Dodgers clearly has not. Now working behind the scenes, he remains an integral part of the organization he helped define for more than a decade.
