The Los Angeles Dodgers could sacrifice top-tier prospect capital to land Minnesota Twins ace Joe Ryan.
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to win games, but questions surrounding the starting rotation remain difficult to ignore.
Following Tuesday’s 12-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles improved its recent form by winning three of its last four games.
Even with that success, injuries have prevented the Dodgers from looking as complete as they have in recent seasons.
That reality has led to outside speculation about potential solutions.
Kerry Miller from Bleacher Report recently proposed that Los Angeles explore a trade for Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan, suggesting a package centered around prospects to strengthen the rotation.
The proposal would send outfield prospects Zyhir Hope and Kendall George along with right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan to Minnesota.
Within the Dodgers’ prospect rankings, Hope currently stands as the organization’s No. 1 prospect, George ranks No. 13, and River Ryan checks in at No. 6.
The suggested move reflects the current state of the roster.
Los Angeles continues to deal with major absences on the pitching side, including Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell, both currently on the 60-day Injured List.
Because of that, adding another established starter has become a logical conversation point.
Miller pointed to Ryan’s consistency and noted that despite limited postseason experience, he has performed as one of baseball’s more effective starters since the beginning of 2022.
“Ryan has just two innings of postseason experience in his career, but he has been a top 25 pitcher in all of baseball since the beginning of 2022,” Miller wrote.
Ryan would immediately provide stability.
He owns a 3.07 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts in 76.1 innings across 14 starts this season.
His 2025 season was also productive as he finished with a 3.42 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 194 strikeouts in 171 innings over 31 appearances (30 starts).
Ryan is currently in his sixth season with the Twins.
For the Dodgers, the conversation becomes one of balancing present and future.
The organization already possesses one of baseball’s strongest farm systems and may be in position to move prospect capital if it believes another frontline arm increases championship odds.
Los Angeles entered this season with the goal of pursuing a third consecutive World Series.
That ambition has already led the organization to continue building aggressively.
This past offseason, the Dodgers added outfielder Kyle Tucker and reliever Edwin Díaz while retaining Shohei Ohtani.
Their willingness to keep pushing resources into the major league roster has become one of the defining stories around the franchise.
The Dodgers currently hold a 43-24 overall record and remain atop the National League West.
Across the league, they sit behind the Milwaukee Brewers at 41-24 and the Atlanta Braves at 45-22 in a tightly contested race among National League contenders.
If Los Angeles determines pitching remains its biggest weakness, adding a starter such as Ryan could become one of the most closely watched possibilities ahead of the trade deadline.
