On the first day of the MLB Draft on Saturday, July 11, the Dodgers drafted shortstop Bo Lowrance in the first round (pick No. 40) and right-hander Russell Sandefer in the fourth round (pick No. 132).

Lowrance, MLB Pipeline's No. 21 Draft prospect, was the sixth-best-ranked hitter in the high school class of draft prospects.

The six-foot-five shortstop was the Dodgers' "main target" heading into the draft, according to amateur scouting director Zach Fitzpatrick via MLB.com.

With highlight tower power hitting prowess, the comparisons to future Hall of Famer Freddie Freeman have been imminent. However, the Dodgers did not have that in mind before drafting the high school shortstop.

"For Bo, it's a good player to model his game after, so we're happy about that," Fitzpatrick said to the media after Saturday's first day of the Draft.

Lowrance addressed comparisons to the Dodgers' first baseman, but he would like to remain at shortstop for his professional career, given the high grade of 55 he received in hitting.

"I think I have the glove skills and the athleticism. As of right now, and where I see myself playing and developing, it's going to be at shortstop," Lowrance told the media via Zoom on Saturday following his selection.

Sandefer, the Dodgers' second selection, pitched in 19 games (12 starts) for the University of Florida in 2026. He was 3-2 with a 4.42 ERA and recorded 60 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched.

On the second day of the MLB Draft, the Dodgers' top two picks were a pair of southpaws in Charlie West and Miles Gosztola.

West struck out 111 batters for the University of Connecticut in 2026. That number led all pitchers in the Big East Conference.

He capped off his 2026 bid with a 4.12 ERA across 87.1 innings for the Huskies.

Gosztola, 21, recorded a 3.61 ERA in 10 starts for the University of Oregon. His swing-and-miss numbers stick out as he struck out 69 hitters in 62.1 innings for the Ducks in 2026.

The spring deadline for the newest draftees is set for July 27.
