The Los Angeles Dodgers part ways with right-hander Nick Nastrini following a difficult stretch marked by command issues.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have released right-handed pitcher Nick Nastrini, bringing an end to his latest stint with the organization that originally drafted him. The move follows a brief and challenging appearance at the Double-A level to begin the 2026 season.
Nastrini, 26, appeared in just one game for Double-A Tulsa, where he struggled to find the strike zone. He faced three batters in that outing, issuing walks to all of them without recording an out.
While it was only a small sample, it continued a pattern that has defined much of his recent professional career — difficulty with command.
Originally selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Nastrini quickly worked his way through the minor league system, showcasing a strong arm but inconsistent control.
His trajectory took a turn in 2023 when he was traded to the Chicago White Sox as part of a multi-player deal that brought veteran pitchers Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly to Los Angeles.
Nastrini reached the major leagues with Chicago in 2024, appearing in nine games, including eight starts. The results were tough as he finished the year without a win and posted an ERA north of seven.
Across those appearances, he allowed more walks, hits, and earned runs than strikeouts — an indicator of the command issues that have persisted throughout his career.
Following his time in Chicago, Nastrini bounced between organizations. During the 2025 season, he was claimed off waivers by both the Miami Marlins and later the Dodgers.
Despite the changes in scenery, his struggles continued at the Triple-A level, where he logged an ERA above 8.00 across multiple stops. Once again, walks proved to be a major hurdle, as he issued more free passes than strikeouts over the course of the season.
Now a free agent, Nastrini will look for another opportunity to reset and refine his mechanics. Given his age and raw stuff, there is still potential for a turnaround if he can improve his command. For now, however, the Dodgers have opted to move on, opening the door for Nastrini to pursue a fresh start with a new organization.
