While facing a daunting postseason sweep, Los Angeles celebrates defensive milestones as two cornerstones battle elite stars Alex Bregman and Pete Crow-Armstrong for prestigious fielding honors.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to avoid being swept in the National League Championship Series, and that starts in Game 3, which takes place on Wednesday, the same day when the Gold Glove Award finalists were revealed.
The likes of Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernandez, Kyle Tucker, and even Yoshinobu Yamamoto weren't named finalists, but Andy Pages and Max Muncy were.
Pages represents the Dodgers in center field while Muncy is their third base representative.
Both players have their work cut out for them, but even being named one of three NL finalists is a huge accomplishment for how grueling a 162-game season is.
Dodgers face stiff odds for Muncy to win
Muncy is officially a Gold Glove finalist for the second time in his career, but it seems like he's going to need to try again next year.
The three-time All-Star is matched up against Alex Bregman, one of the best defenders in all of baseball, and Javier Sanoja.
MLB.com made note that Muncy hasn't been a plus defender by fielding run value since 2021, and that's something that Bregman has been doing on a consistent basis.
Here in 2026, Bregman notched his seventh straight season of being an above-average defender, and the 2024 Gold Glove Award winner ended the year with +9 outs above average.
For reference, that was second among all third basemen. Sanoja has a case to be made with his +6 OAA, which is fourth in the NL, along with his +5 FRV, which was tied for fourth.
Sanoja won the Gold Glove Award last year as a utility player, but now is stuck at third base where both he and Muncy will likely fall to Bregman.
Pages is stuck against Pete Crow-Armstrong
Is there a worse person to be going up against than Pete Crow-Armstrong? The likely 2026 NL MVP had a defensive value worth +23 runs, which led the league.
PCA's OAA came in at +26, which is officially the highest by an outfielder in a single season this decade.
Pages sported a strong +13 FRV, which was the third most among qualified outfielders, but it was still nothing in comparison to Crow-Armstrong's +26.
Sure, Pages led the league with 14 outfield assists, but it seems like a foregone conclusion that PCA will be leaving with the hardware on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Michael Harris II was the third finalist. He put together a career year with his +14 OAA and +12 FRV.
