Los Angeles Dodgers player Hyeseong Kim collects five hits as the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets' offense erupts early.
Infielder Hyeseong Kim delivered a breakout performance for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a double, RBI, and four runs scored on Saturday night.
The performance marked the first five-hit game of his U.S. career and made him the first Oklahoma City Comet player to accomplish the feat since Ryan Ward did so on May 29, 2025.
After opening the minor-league season with a quieter showing, Kim wasted no time finding his rhythm. His all-around offensive display highlighted both his bat-to-ball skills and his ability to impact the game in multiple ways.
Assigned to Triple-A to begin the season, Kim has quickly made a case that he may not be there long if this level of production continues.
Spring Competition Carries Into Early Season
Kim entered Spring Training in a battle for the Dodgers’ second base job, competing in part for a platoon role alongside Alex Freeland. Despite putting together strong numbers during camp, Kim ultimately fell short of making the Opening Day roster.
The decision raised eyebrows at the time, especially given Kim’s impressive .407 batting average across 27 at-bats in spring.
However, manager Dave Roberts cited limited opportunities and inconsistent reps — partly due to Kim’s participation with Team Korea in the World Baseball Classic — as factors in the decision.
Freeland, despite a slower spring, earned the nod and has since found early success at the big-league level. It made the roster decision easier to justify in the short term.
Tibbs Continues to Impress
Outfielder James Tibbs III also turned in a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and three RBIs. He matched a career high in hits while accounting for three of Oklahoma City’s first five extra-base hits of the season.
Tibbs’ performance reinforced his status as one of the more intriguing prospects in the organization. The former first-round pick has navigated a whirlwind stretch of transactions, having been dealt twice in 2025 before landing with the Dodgers.
Despite the challenges, Tibbs has continued to produce. He posted a .243 batting average with a .373 on-base percentage and .429 slugging percentage last season, along with 71 RBIs.
His strong Spring only added to the momentum as he recorded a 1.074 OPS with four home runs and 11 RBI in 22 games.
Looking Ahead
Both Kim and Tibbs are off to strong starts. If their early performances are any indication, they both may very well find themselves making an impact on the Major League roster later this season.
