After a disappointing postseason exit, the Los Angeles Dodgers could secure a dynasty by trading for the Washington Nationals' young stars.
If there was ever a time to make a blockbuster trade for the Los Angeles Dodgers, it's now.
Fresh off being swept in the National League Championship Series, the back-to-back World Series champions know a three-peat isn't in their future.
A lockout certainly could be, but that wouldn't affect this trade with the Washington Nationals, depending on when it goes down.
On Monday, Oct. 19, Jim Bowden proposed a six-player blockbuster on GM Territory.
Dodgers send four players to the Nationals
"The Nationals have been unable, or unwilling to sign James Wood and CJ Abrams to long-term contracts," Bowden said.
Bowden knows they can't let them go in free agency, so they need to do something massive like they did with Juan Soto back in 2022.
The Dodgers have always been aggressive, as seen with acquiring Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline. Even though that didn't work out, the rental still got them to the NLCS, and there's a world where Skubal does indeed stay with the Dodgers long-term.
Bowden believes acquiring Wood and Abrams would "completely change this franchise," though he knows it would cost a pretty penny.
So, in this trade package, LA would send pitchers Emmet Sheehan and Justin Wrobleski along with top prospect Josue De Paula and catcher Dalton Rushing.
LA got a taste of what De Paula could do at the end of the regular season, and while his playing time in the playoffs was limited, he made the roster and that shows just how much potential they see in him.
Wroblesky and Sheehan don't have a ton of room on this roster with the starting rotation at full strength, so there's no doubt those two are expendable in a package like this.
Bowden absolutely loves the idea of pairing Wood and Abrams with "future Hall of Famers" such as Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Shohei Ohtani.
Obviously, the Nationals are going to be listening to calls on these two if they don't end up working out long-term deals.
At this stage, it seems like they're both headed towards free agency, and the Nationals must cash in while they can.
Wood, 24, is a left-handed outfielder that the Dodgers would undoubtedly love to add to their roster.
Abrams, 26, is another left-handed option, though he's almost exclusively played shortstop since debuting in 2022. That said, the Nationals toyed around with him a bit at second base this season, so that would give the Dodgers a bit more flexibility in the infield.
