The Los Angeles Dodgers weren't satisfied with just Tarik Skubal as they just added a left-handed pitcher from the Kansas City Royals.

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired the one true name they wanted this season, Tarik Skubal, but they weren't done there.

The team has continued to make moves, with the latest being their acquisition of left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic from the Kansas City Royals.

ESPN's Jeff Passan broke the news just a few hours before the trade deadline comes to an end on Monday, Aug. 3.

While they seem to have a surplus of starting pitchers, quite a few are on the Injured List. Interestingly enough, Bubic will leave Kansas City still on the 60-day Injured List, though he's continuing to recover from left elbow and shoulder soreness.

As of July 1, he faced a setback and was transferred to the 60-day IL. At the end of the day, it's yet another arm for the Dodgers to have around; it's just a matter of when he'll be able to make his return to the mound.

Bubic joins a loaded rotation in Los Angeles

Bubic, 28, has made nine starts this season. He sports a 3-2 record with a 4.11 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. While those numbers are up from years prior, it's worth noting he pitched out of the bullpen in 2024, and his nine starts here in 2026 aren't nearly the same sample size as he had with 20 starts a year ago.

Regardless, the Dodgers are acquiring a southpaw less than 48 hours after they added Skubal, someone who's undoubtedly one of the best pitchers in the game.

Obviously, Bubic being on the IL makes things interesting. His latest report, according to ESPN, was over a week and a half ago. He began a throwing progression with 30 throws from 45 to 60 feet, so that's at least a step in the right direction.

The California native is set to play on a team not named the Kansas City Royals for the first time in his career. He made his big league debut in 2020, and has gone on to pitch in 126 games, making 89 starts in the process.

Trade details have yet to be revealed

It remains unknown what the Dodgers sent the Royals, but it'll be interesting to see what their asking price was for an injured pitcher.

USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale said this was a move "so the Dodgers can stash him away," and he's absolutely correct. The phrase "the rich get richer" has never been more true, but once again, a trade like this comes at a cost.

UPDATE: Royals acquire Carlos Duran

Right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran is the player the Dodgers had to give up in order to bring in Bubic, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Duran, 25, is currently with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City. He sports a 3-2 record here in 2026 with a 3.38 ERA.

Duran has pitched exclusively in Triple-A this season, and he's started two of the 37 games he's appeared in. The Dominican Republic native has four holds on the year with a pair of saves in 42.2 innings pitched.
