A pinch-hit blast signaled Tommy Edman’s surging return to form, providing a lone spark as the Los Angeles Dodgers offense stalled in game two against the New York Yankees.

After a complete game from Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the opener, the Los Angeles Dodgers' offense failed to help out their bullpen in the second game of a doubleheader.

The New York Yankees prevailed, 2-1, thanks to a first-inning RBI from Cody Bellinger and a solo shot from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the eighth.

LA took home the series win and sits at 63-37 while the Yankees improved to 55-44.

Manager Dave Roberts opted to have Tommy Edman come into the game and pinch hit for Miguel Rojas. Immediately, Edman left his mark on this game. The 31-year-old blasted a 387-foot homer to right center as the Dodgers tied the game, 1-1.

Sadly for the Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages couldn't take advantage of Max Muncy's and Dalton Rushing's walks. Those two were left stranded in the top half, which made all the difference in the world as Chisholm's homer came just a few at-bats later and sealed the deal.

Edman on his approach as a pinch hitter

"Yeah I don't know, I think it's just preparation and having a consistent routine," Edman said, according to Bleed Los. "I think I've just done a really good job of getting bad habits out of the way before they creep into my swing a little bit more.

"I feel like I just have a much better knowledge of what my swing needs to look like right now and I've been able to ride it out since I've been back."

Edman said the team watched the entire World Cup Final as they were at the ballpark for over 12 hours in what just so happened to be their first doubleheader of the year. "It's good to get that out of the way and good to come out of here with the series win," he said.

Edman has been on fire since his return

Since making his 2026 season debut on Wednesday, June 17, the Michigan native has been on a heater.

Edman slashed .395/.452/.579 during the month of June, and he's continuing to see the ball extremely well in July. With the exact same number of at-bats (38) as he had in the previous month, Edman is slashing .316/.409/.474. Overall, he's hitting .355 this season with a .957 OPS.

Edman's homer was only his second of the year, but he's up to 14 RBIs. The Dodgers have been able to use him in a true utility role as he's made appearances at second and third base along with center and left field.
