Dodgers vs. Padres Preview: Crucial Division Slate
Jun 25, 2026 8:22 PM

Both National League West rivals enter this showdown riding three-game winning streaks. Los Angeles Dodgers' Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto look to stifle a surging San Diego Padres squad desperate to close the gap.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are fresh off a three-game sweep in Minnesota, one that saw them improve to 52-29 on the year.

With the best record in baseball, it should come as no surprise that this team is enjoying a comfortable league in the National League West.

Not only are the Dodgers coming into this series off a sweep, but the San Diego Padres are as well. Looking to go a perfect 6-0 in this homestand, the Padres would love nothing more than to cut their NL West deficit to six games.

The Padres seem to be heating up a bit, but the Dodgers rebounded perfectly from a two-game losing streak and the last thing they want to do is drop a few in the midst of a nine-game road trip.

Roki Sasaki (3-4, 4.76 ERA) vs. Walker Buehler (4-3, 3.96 ERA)

Sasaki has given up 10 earned runs in his last two starts. It's clear the month of June hasn't gone according to plan, but at the very least, he only gave up three runs on Friday, June 19, after giving up seven a week earlier.

Buehler's month is looking much, much better. He's given up exactly one earned run in all four of his starts, each of which has gone at least 4.2 innings. Fresh off a seven strikeout game, his highest since Thursday, April 16, it'll be interesting to see what the Dodgers are able to do against him.

Saturday, June 27

Yoshinobu Yamamoto (7-5, 2.65 ERA) vs. Randy Vasquez (6-5, 4.17 ERA)

It should be a crime for Yamamoto to have only one more win and the same amount of losses as Vasquez, a starter with an ERA that is 1.52 higher than his. That said, Yamamoto is coming off his first loss since Monday, May 18, one that ended his streak of four straight victories.

The Dodgers know Vasquez just allowed six earned runs on eight hits in only 3.1 innings, so that's something they'll look to pounce on in game two.

Sunday, June 28

Emmet Sheehan (3-5, 5.32 ERA) vs. Michael King (5-6, 3.33 ERA)

Sheehan has been trending in the wrong direction as he just picked up his fourth straight loss. After starting the year 3-1, he now sits at 3-5 and has an ERA of 7.31 in the month of June.

King's ERA in June sits at just 3.75, a total highlighted by his recent stellar seven-inning start, one that saw him strikeout five, the highest total he's had since Monday, May 18, which coincidentally was the last time he faced the Dodgers.
