Shaking off a demoralizing slump, the Los Angeles Dodgers head to Coors Field to ignite their dormant bats against a vulnerable Colorado Rockies rotation.
The Los Angeles Dodgers just dropped three of four at Dodger Stadium, to the team with the best record in all of baseball.
Now, they're tasked with going to Coors Field to play the 50-74 Colorado Rockies.
There's no off day in between, but one would argue the reigning back-to-back World Series Champions shouldn't need it.
This offense has been abysmal, to say the least, but they've had their fair share of mistakes on defense as well.
Not only that, but the Dodgers bullpen has been rather rough, so jumping out to an early lead is crucial, and the elevation in Colorado should help get this team's top hitters back on track.
Tomoyuki Sugano is the Rockies' game one starter
Coming off a demoralizing four-run loss, the Dodgers are stuck facing a pitcher in this series opener who is 12-5. Tomoyuki Sugano may be 36 years old, but he's been extremely beneficial to this last-place team, and that's an understatement.
Sugano sports a 2.2 WAR during his second year in the MLB. His ERA may be at 4.43, but most of that is due to him having so many starts at home.
The Japanese sensation has faced the Dodgers twice already this season. He's thrown 8.2 innings against them this season, allowing a resounding 15 hits and eight earned runs. The Dodgers have already hit three homers against him this season, so who's to say they can't do that again on Monday, Aug. 17?
Dodgers get a second shot against Ryan Feltner
Earlier this season, Ryan Feltner made just his fourth start of the year against the Dodgers. At the time, his 5.2-inning start was the deepest he went into a ballgame during the 2026 season.
LA struggled against him as they mustered up just five hits for two earned runs. That said, both of those runs came from solo homers, so that's five home runs right there against only Sugano and Feltner this season.
Dodgers have had great success vs. Kyle Freeland
Kyle Freeland is similar to Feltner in the fact that he's been a Rockies pitcher for his entire MLB career. Those two have faced the Dodgers plenty of times, but they haven't always been that successful.
When focusing on 2026 alone, Freeland has allowed 14 earned runs to the Dodgers in just nine innings of work. The Dodgers have hit four homers off him, so that brings their total against this Rockies starting pitching trio to nine. LA has racked up nine hits against Freeland in his two starts against the Dodgers this season, so if there was ever a time for this offense to come to life, it's now.
