The Los Angeles Dodgers announced their minor-league coaching assignments for the 2026 season on Thursday, with former major-league outfielder David Dahl stepping into a new role within the organization.
Dahl will join the Triple-A Oklahoma City staff as an outfield coach and assistant hitting coach, marking his official transition from playing to coaching following his retirement late last year.
Dahl’s hiring represents a continuation of his relationship with the Dodgers, as this will be his second stint in the organization.
He previously signed a minor-league contract with Los Angeles in June 2023 and spent time with Oklahoma City, appearing in 54 games during that stretch.
While that opportunity did not lead to a return to the majors, it provided Dahl with familiarity in the Dodgers’ player development environment, an experience that now carries over into his coaching role.
A first-round pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2012, Dahl enjoyed a seven-season major league career highlighted by flashes of high-level production when healthy.
He debuted with Colorado in 2016 and quickly made an impact, establishing himself as a dynamic outfielder with power, athleticism, and run-producing ability.
His best season came in 2019, when he earned an All-Star selection after hitting .302 with 15 home runs and 61 RBIs, cementing his place among the league’s more productive outfielders that year.
Injuries, however, played a significant role in shaping the latter part of Dahl’s career. He later spent time with the Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres organizations before landing with the Dodgers in 2023.
Despite those setbacks, Dahl built a reputation as a respected clubhouse presence and a player known for his preparation and approach at the plate, traits that translate naturally to a coaching role.
With Oklahoma City, Dahl will work closely with upper-level prospects, offering guidance on outfield defense, hitting mechanics, and the daily routines required to succeed at the major league level.
His experience navigating both peak success and adversity in the big leagues gives him a valuable perspective to share with players on the cusp of reaching Los Angeles.
For the Dodgers, adding Dahl to the Triple-A staff aligns with their broader emphasis on integrating former players into player development roles, ensuring prospects benefit from firsthand major league experience as they prepare for the next step in their careers.
