Los Angeles Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Tapped for NBA Celebrity Game cover image

Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts trades his bat for the bench, coaching in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game alongside music and sports icons.

This year’s NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles will include a familiar face for Southern California sports fans. Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts has been named a coach for the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

The league announced the selection on Tuesday, adding another crossover moment to Betts’ already diverse athletic profile.

Best known as one of baseball’s premier all-around players, Betts has long shown an interest in sports beyond the diamond.

He is an accomplished bowler who has competed in Professional Bowlers Association events and is also an avid golfer, frequently participating in celebrity tournaments.

That competitive versatility makes him a natural fit for the Celebrity Game environment, where athletic ability and entertainment value often intersect.

While Betts will take on a leadership role from the sideline, some intrigue remains regarding who will line up alongside or potentially against him.

ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania has been confirmed as one of the participants in the game, though it has not yet been determined whether he will play for Betts’ squad or oppose it.

Additional coaches and complete rosters are expected to be announced closer to All-Star Weekend.

The NBA has already revealed several other notable names set to participate. Rapper GloRilla is slated to take part in the event, adding star power from the music world, while acclaimed producer Mustard, an L.A.

Their inclusion continues the league’s tradition of blending sports, music, and pop culture during All-Star festivities.

The Celebrity Game will serve as the opening act of a packed All-Star Weekend schedule. Festivities begin Friday, Feb. 13, with the Celebrity Game, followed by the Rising Stars Challenge and the HBCU Classic later that evening.

Saturday night will showcase the league’s signature skills events, including the Three-Point Contest and the Slam Dunk Contest, before the weekend culminates with the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.

For Betts, the coaching nod represents another moment where his star power transcends baseball.

Already a World Series champion, MVP, and one of the most recognizable athletes in Los Angeles, Betts’ involvement in the Celebrity Game further cements his status as a multi-sport figure and a prominent ambassador for the city’s broader sports culture.
