Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani Embracing Normalcy Heading into Dodgers Season cover image

Los Angeles Dodgers' star Shohei Ohtani feels healthy and ready for a normal season, finally prioritizing preparation over rehabilitation.

Shohei Ohtani took the stage at DodgersFest this weekend, sounding refreshed, relaxed, and, most notably, healthy — a feeling he said defined his offseason more than awards or celebrations.

Fresh off another MVP season and a championship year with the Dodgers, Ohtani described the past few months as “business as usual,” a welcome change from recent winters spent rehabbing major injuries.

For the first time in a while, the two-way star was able to follow a relatively normal offseason routine, something he said made a significant difference as spring training approaches.

Ohtani emphasized that being healthy entering camp is something he does not take for granted. Fully recovered from elbow surgery, he said his body feels strong and ready, allowing him to focus on preparation rather than rehabilitation.

The only adjustment, he noted, is ramping up a bit earlier than usual due to the upcoming World Baseball Classic, which has altered his normal timeline.

While Ohtani reiterated his expectation to pitch throughout the regular season, his availability for the World Baseball Classic remains fluid.

He explained that his decision will depend entirely on how his body responds as he continues to build strength and endurance, stressing that he plans to stay prepared while monitoring his progress closely.

DodgersFest itself served as a reminder of the magnitude surrounding both Ohtani and the franchise.

He acknowledged the noticeably larger crowds and energy at the event, pointing to the organization’s recent success and growing star power as factors fueling the excitement around the team.

Ohtani also touched on improvements he felt late last season, including an increase in velocity and confidence as games progressed. He credited his overall training program and how his body responded, noting that feeling strong allowed him to push himself more as outings went on.

When asked about the Dodgers’ aggressive roster-building approach and the sheer amount of talent added in recent years, Ohtani framed it simply.

He said his conversations with ownership and the front office centered on a shared goal: consistently putting together a team capable of winning championships. From his perspective, the focus has always remained on playing winning baseball rather than financial mechanics.

Ultimately, Ohtani said his priority remains unchanged. He wants to play meaningful games deep into the season and help the Dodgers continue their championship standard, hoping this year’s run will feature even more memorable moments than the last.
