Tanner Scott’s lights-out consistency creates a bullpen dilemma for Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were in a tight battle against the Colorado Rockies, but Tanner Scott did his thing by coming in and recording a four-out save.

At this point in time, it's unknown if manager Dave Roberts would even have that same mindset for a relief appearance out of Edwin Díaz.

Díaz has been rough, to say the least, and now he finds himself on the 15-day Injured List due to neck inflammation.

The 32-year-old has had a rough go of it this season, and while Scott hasn't been perfect, he's certainly done his job far more consistently than the closer this team just paid $69 million to in the offseason.

Fresh off picking up his team-leading 17th save of the year, the Dodgers will soon have to decide whether or not Scott will remain in this role once Diaz returns.

Scott has been nearly perfect since July 8

Scott, who is also 32 years old, has picked up five saves and six holds since Wednesday, July 8.

That date is important to note as it's the first time he pitched since blowing his second save of the year, coincidentally, against the Rockies on Monday, July 6.

While Scott did allow a run in his four-out appearance on Tuesday, Aug. 18, that marks only the second earned run he's allowed since the aforementioned July 8 appearance.

The 27 pitches he threw were tied with his appearance on Thursday, July 30, for the most he's thrown this season.

Overall, Scott has been great in that one-plus month sample size, but it's worth noting he hasn't allowed a home run since Thursday, June 4, when he picked up his third loss of the year.

Scott sits at 1-3 on the year and hasn't lost since that game, so it's been over two full months since he's severely been a detriment to the team. When it comes to Díaz, the Puerto Rican native picked up a pair of losses on Aug. 7 and Aug. 13 in a span where he managed to blow three saves.

What's Diaz's role upon his return?

The Dodgers don't have an easy decision to make when Díaz returns, but it feels like Scott is going to make that decision for them.

Riding the hot hand seems to work more often than not, so Díaz should be relegated to a setup role, or just thrown in whenever Roberts believes will give him the least amount of pressure.

Remember, the Dodgers just tried to do that in an 11-2 game against the Rockies, but he still needed to throw 20+ pitches to record three outs in an inning that saw him allow three earned runs on four hits.
