Despite a cold start and vanishing plate discipline, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts maintains faith in his young outfielder.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have full faith in Andy Pages despite his 0-for-7 start in the National League Division Series.
In this rare situation, having a bye probably didn't benefit Pages as it prevented him from getting more at-bats.
At this point, he's just not seeing the ball well, and this is something that's followed him throughout his postseason career.
Remember, the 25-year-old has a career .104 batting average in the playoffs. He's coming off a 2025 campaign where he hit just .078 in 51 at-bats, yet somehow that didn't hold the Dodgers back from winning their second consecutive World Series.
Here in 2026, it feels like the competition in the NL is much tougher, as seen with the Atlanta Braves tying this series at one game apiece.
Manager Dave Roberts and Co. can't even begin to look ahead to the NLCS as they're now in a makeshift best-of-three series, one where they desperately need Pages to improve if he's going to stay in the lineup.
Roberts discusses Pages' struggles for Dodgers
According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Roberts said "I'm gonna continue to give Andy leash."
A 0-for-7 start may be less than ideal, but it can't be forgotten that the manager also had to revoke his challenge privileges after a brutal miss in Game 1 from the center fielder.
Clearly, that challenge shows how hard it is for him to see the ball at the current moment. Roberts added, "I believe in him," and said he "hopes it doesn't get to that point," where they need to bench him.
Pages has one hit in his last eight playoff games
Going back to the 2025 postseason, Pages only has one last hit in his last eight games. That hit came on Oct. 25, 2025, in a game where he went 1-for-4 with a run.
Not only is Pages not getting hits, but he also consistently fails to get on base. This is a hitter who drew a career-high 49 walks in the regular season, which was only nine fewer than he had in his first two seasons combined.
When looking at his numbers in the playoffs, he has one career postseason walk in 77 at-bats.
Shockingly, that walk came in game two when he took all six pitches he saw. Patience is a virtue, and if that's the only way for him to get on base, so be it, because the Dodgers clearly love his defense enough to warrant him being in this lineup.
Roberts believes Pages is "trying to do too much," so it'll be interesting to see if his approach is adjusted in Game 3 after the off-day.
