Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, and Kendall George showcase growth and chemistry after sharing time in Los Angeles Dodgers camp.
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to build for the future, and a trio of rising outfield prospects offered a glimpse of what’s ahead during Spring Training. Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, and Kendall George turned heads after spending time together in the big-league camp.
The three outfielders, who spent most of last season playing side by side at High-A Great Lakes, each bring a unique skill set.
De Paula is widely regarded for his polished hitting ability, Hope stands out for his raw power, and George’s elite speed, graded at the top of the scouting scale, makes him a constant threat on the bases and in the field.
As detailed by Dodgers beat reporter Sonja Chen of MLB.com, despite their talent, opportunities to gain visibility can be limited for prospects still developing in the lower Minors, especially within an organization coming off consecutive World Series titles.
However, their presence in the major-league camp allowed them to experience the pace and expectations of the next level while also previewing their potential impact in Saturday’s Spring Breakout game.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts emphasized the importance of that exposure.
“I’d like to think that they see the level, the standard that needs to be reached to play with major-league players,” Roberts said.
“They all three have the talent, but the game is faster here," Roberts continued. "I think that seeing those guys play with urgency is important. I do think they’ve grown, they’ve gotten more mature physically and mentally over a calendar year.”
The path to the big leagues in Los Angeles is far from simple. The current outfield features established names, while other prospects are further along in development. Still, De Paula views the competition as motivation rather than an obstacle.
“Now understanding the statistics and how it really helps, especially in the World Series, watching these last two World Series and understanding every little play matters, every little detail matters,” De Paula said.
“The end goal is not just to be a great hitter," De Paula added. "I already know I am. The goal is to be a complete player in every aspect of the game, not having any holes.”
George, coming off a season in which he stole 100 bases, is focused on refining his defensive approach.
“I think in the outfield, I've kind of relied on my speed rather than relying on technique,” he said. “And I feel like now that I'm relying on technique more, the speed is showing up even more than it was previously.”
Hope echoed the value of learning in a championship environment.
“From the staff, players, everyone — it's talent in all aspects of the game,” he said. “So kind of just seeing how everybody goes about their business and stuff like that. Soak it in, stay a student to the game.”
Beyond individual growth, the trio’s shared journey has built a strong bond.
“Especially with somebody to go with you through the good moments, the bad,” De Paula said. “Just someone by your side... I feel like it's a blessing to always have somebody like that next to me.”
