The Dodgers are starting to look like themselves again. With Wednesday night’s 9–0 victory over the Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers wrapped up a sweep at Dodger Stadium and extended their winning streak to four games. Just as important as the result on the field is the sense that the roster is finally regaining some health and stability.

One of the most significant boosts came this week when Tommy Edman was activated from the injured list. The versatile defender had been sidelined with a sprained right ankle, an issue that has nagged him since late April and cost him two separate stints on the IL. Edman’s return not only restores some of the Dodgers’ trademark flexibility but also provides a steadying presence in the outfield.

To make room for him, the club optioned outfielder Justin Dean to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Dean often entered games as a late defensive replacement, but Edman’s ability to handle multiple spots allows manager Dave Roberts to keep his bench deeper and his lineup more adaptable. On Wednesday, Edman was written into the lineup as the starting center fielder, with Andy Pages in left and Teoscar Hernández in right.

That outfield alignment could stick. Hernández has admitted he feels more comfortable in right field, where tracking fly balls comes easier. Pages, meanwhile, might benefit offensively from moving away from the responsibility of patrolling center. He’s already put together one of the more impressive breakout campaigns in the National League, batting .273 with 24 home runs and a 114 OPS+, well above league average for a young hitter.

For Edman, the key will be whether he can regain the offensive form he had before the ankle issues started. In his first 30 games of the season, he was producing consistently. However, after rushing back in May, his numbers dropped significantly, showing how much the injury had limited his swing and ability to drive the ball. The Dodgers are counting on this recent stint on the IL to give him the rest he needed to return closer to his best form.

Roberts emphasized that getting his roster healthy is just as crucial as any win streak. “We've all been waiting for our guys to come back to health and see what we look like as the ballclub that we had all envisioned,” he said after Wednesday’s game. “At certain times, I thought we'd lost sight of playing the game the way we're capable of playing.”

Now, with Edman back and Pages continuing to emerge as an everyday force, the Dodgers look closer to resembling the club many projected to contend for a championship this season.
