First baseman Dominic Smith, who spent some time with the San Francisco Giants, has signed a minor-league deal with the Atlanta Braves.

Smith was a former top prospect in the majors with the New York Mets. But injuries and less-than-stellar hitting and plate appearances have piled up for him.

Now, Smith gets a chance to show that he's in decent shape.
