Giants Lose Heartbreaker to Padres

Aug 2, 2026 4:58 AM

A ninth-inning rally proved to be enough for the San Diego Padres, who defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-5 on Saturday night at Petco Park in San Diego.

Jake Cronenworth's RBI single to center field off Giants reliever Dylan Smith brought Xander Bogaerts home with the game-winning run.

This marks a second straight loss for San Francisco to San Diego.

Tyler Mahle got the start for Giants manager Tony Vitello, going 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, five earned runs, two walks, and struck out nine. Mahle also gave up a home run in his outing, too.
