Bad news, Giants fans. Hayden Birdsong is gone for the season.

News broke earlier on Thursday that Birdsong would undergo Tommy John surgery. That puts him on the sidelines with a lot of rehabilitation time awaiting him after that surgery is done.

Alex Pavlovic, who covers the Giants for NBC Sports Bay Area, was among a number of Giants reporters to share the news online.

It's a tough break for Birdsong and for the Giants' pitching plans.

Now, the team has to make adjustments.
