On Thursday night, the San Francisco Giants traded right-handed pitcher Kai-Wei Teng to the Houston Astros in exchange for minor-league catcher Jancel Villarroel.

Longtime Astros beat reporter Brian McTaggart posted about it on X, giving a hat tip to Astros beat writer Chandler Rome of The Athletic, who had the report first.

The Astros made a corresponding move, designating pitcher J.P. France for assignment.

Last season, Teng was 2-4 with a 6.37 ERA in eight games for the Giants. He gave up 29 hits, 24 runs (21 earned), walked 17, and struck out 39.

Villarroel split time between Class-A+ Asheville and Class A Fayetteville for the Astros last season. He hit .259 with a slash line of .351/.388/.739 in 433 plate appearances.
