For the San Francisco Giants, Thursday's series finale against the Athletics presented an opportunity to complete a series sweep after securing the previous game on Victor Bericoto's walk-off home run. With Landen Roupp taking the mound, San Francisco looked to finish the series on a high note.

Instead, the Giants came up short, falling 9-6 after surrendering a late lead. Despite another solid outing from Roupp, San Francisco's bullpen faltered in the ninth inning, with Caleb Kilian taking both the blown save and the loss.

Roupp, who has been one of the Giants' most consistent pitchers this season, delivered another strong performance. The right-hander pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out six over 108 pitches, including 64 strikes.

The outing remained clean through the first four innings before Roupp surrendered both runs in the fifth. Even so, it marked another encouraging start following his six-inning, two-earned-run performance against the Miami Marlins on June 19.

The Giants' offense broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning when Willy Adames launched his 14th home run of the season, giving San Francisco an early 1-0 lead.

The offense remained quiet until the sixth inning, when the Giants erupted for five more runs. Jung Hoo Lee delivered a three-RBI triple before Bericoto, coming off his walk-off home run in the previous game, added a two-run homer to extend the Giants' advantage to 6-2.

Ryan Walker entered in relief following Roupp's outing and recorded two outs in the seventh inning before running into trouble. After allowing runners to reach second and third, Walker exited in favor of Erik Miller, who surrendered a two-run single that cut the Giants' lead.

Dylan Smith took over in the eighth inning and also encountered difficulties, allowing an RBI single before escaping the frame. Despite the run, San Francisco still carried a 6-5 lead into the ninth inning.

Kilian entered looking to secure the save but was unable to close the door. With two outs, Jonah Heim tied the game with an RBI single before Lawrence Butler followed with another RBI single to give the Athletics a 7-6 lead. Max Muncy then added a two-run single, extending the Athletics' advantage to 9-6.

Kilian was unable to finish the inning, prompting the Giants to turn to Matt Gage to record the final out. By that point, however, the damage had already been done.

The Giants ultimately dropped the series finale 9-6 but still claimed the series by taking two of the three games against the Athletics. 

San Francisco will return to action Friday when it opens a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves. The Giants have yet to announce a starting pitcher, while the Braves are expected to send Reynaldo López (3-1, 3.50 ERA) to the mound.
