In his last seven games, Schmitt has 15 hits, a home run, and four RBIs. Only four of his 15 hits were for extra bases (three doubles and a homer), but that doesn't take away from the fact he's single-handedly keeping this team alive.
San Francisco doesn't want to completely eliminate themselves from the postseason race yet. Crazier comebacks have happened, but at the end of the day, they need to take a look in the mirror and try to identify who they want to be, not just in 2026, but in years to come.
If there's a world where a team wants to take on Rafael Devers or Willy Adames' contract, this would be the time to strike. Schmitt and Bryce Eldridge are two cornerstones to build around, so there's no reason to not consider making moves that might worsen this team in 2026 but would help them prepare for the future.
