Anthony Molina stifled his former club while Rafael Devers and a sixth-inning surge powered the San Francisco Giants to a rare sweep over the Atlanta Braves.
To call this a delayed sweep would be an understatement, but the San Francisco Giants took down the Atlanta Braves, 7-3, in a game that was supposed to be played on June 18.
As unorthodox as it may be, it's the Giants' first sweep of the year, so that gives this team something to celebrate.
San Francisco improved to 57-81, and more importantly, improved their measly road record to 24-45.
Knowing just how good this Braves team has been, it's incredible to think the Giants were able to win not just this game, but also take the first two back in mid-June, 7-2 and 7-5.
Anthony Molina delivers best career start
Anthony Molina is just 24 years old, but he debuted in the big leagues in 2024. Things didn't work out with the Colorado Rockies, so he started the 2026 season with the Atlanta Braves before San Francisco decided to give him a shot.
Of course, he just so happened to make his best career start and overall major-league appearance against the team that he began the year with.
Molina allowed just three earned runs in five innings, and struck out six Braves in the process.
He gave up a run in the first, and then a second-inning home run to Michael Harris II, but he cruised through the third and fourth innings before allowing one more run in the fifth.
Thankfully for Molina, the Giants' run support came just in time. With San Francisco trailing 3-2 going into the sixth inning, they put up a four-run inning, which helped Molina improve to 2-0 on the year.
Combined, this Giants pitching staff struck out 10 batters and didn't issue a walk until the ninth inning.
Giants offense came to life in their first sweep of the year
San Francisco came out of the gates hot with a Rafael Devers first-inning home run. Arguably no hitter has been hotter than Devers, so it was quite exciting to see his recent hot streak continue.
From there, a bunt single would score a run in the fifth, and then the sixth-inning barrage put this game on ice.
Osleivis Basabe's leadoff home run got things started, and from there it was single, single, sacrifice bunt, double, fly out, and single to take a 6-3 lead.
Bryce Eldridge, Jonah Cox, Andrew Knizner, and Nate Furman all had a two-hit game, combining for eight of the team's 11 hits in their first sweep since the end of the 2025 season.
