San Francisco Giants managed little offense outside of Casey Schmitt’s late homer as the Baltimore Orioles won the series.
The San Francisco Giants closed out their series against the Baltimore Orioles with a 6-2 loss on Sunday, dropping two of three games on the road trip stop.
San Francisco’s offense struggled to find rhythm for much of the afternoon, held quiet early by Baltimore’s starting pitching. The Giants were retired in order through the first four innings, unable to generate traffic or apply pressure as they fell behind.
When opportunities did arise later in the game, the Giants were unable to string together enough consistent contact to mount a meaningful comeback.\
Schmitt Provides Late Spark
One bright spot for San Francisco came late, as Casey Schmitt delivered a strong individual performance. The infielder recorded three hits on the day, highlighted by a solo home run in the ninth inning that struck the left-field foul pole.
Schmitt’s swing accounted for one of the Giants’ few extra-base hits and served as a late reminder of the lineup’s potential, even as the game had largely slipped out of reach.
Houser Battled but Took the Loss
Right-hander Adrian Houser took the mound for San Francisco and worked into the fifth inning, but ran into trouble against a productive Baltimore lineup. He allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings, with key damage coming in the early and middle frames.
Despite flashing moments of effectiveness, Houser was unable to limit the Orioles when it mattered most, as timely hitting extended Baltimore’s lead.
Arraez Held Out as Precaution
The Giants were also without Luis Arraez, who remained sidelined after exiting the previous game with a bruised right wrist. Manager Tony Vitello emphasized a cautious approach prior to the game, prioritizing recovery over a quick return.
Arraez is currently considered day-to-day, and the Giants remain optimistic that additional rest will allow him to return at full strength.
Looking Ahead
With the series loss, San Francisco continues its road trip, looking to regain momentum. The Giants will turn the page quickly as they prepare for their next matchup against the Cincinnati Reds.
They will have the off day on Monday before pringing into action Tuesday, aiming to find more consistency at the plate while monitoring Arraez’s progress closely.
