Eric Haase, after hitting two home runs in the San Francisco Giants’ victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, talked about his performance.
For the San Francisco Giants, Tuesday’s 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers represented more than another divisional victory.
According to catcher Eric Haase, the performance reflected a growing confidence and chemistry inside the clubhouse that the team has been searching for throughout much of the season.
Following his historic two-home run performance, Haase spoke about the shift in energy surrounding the club and what it meant to accomplish it against a rival on the road.
“I just think the chemistry in the room now is what we were searching for a lot of the season,” Haase said. “It’s nice to finally feel that shift of momentum and energy, and to do it in LA obviously was big for the boys.”
Haase played a major role in creating that momentum, becoming the first catcher in franchise history to hit two home runs at Dodger Stadium during a game against Los Angeles. While the accomplishment surprised him, the veteran catcher remained focused on the team’s overall progress.
“I didn’t know that was on the bingo card,” Haase said with a smile. “I’ve definitely had some poor days on a baseball field, so to do that in Giants history, that’s great.”
Facing one of baseball’s hardest throwers, Haase credited his preparation and simplified approach at the plate for helping produce the breakout performance.
“Just trying to be on time,” Haase said. “It sounds really simple, but against a heater like that, you’re just trying to get the foot down and be ready to go.”
Haase explained that much of his preparation revolves around maintaining timing despite inconsistent playing opportunities. As a backup who can move in and out of the lineup, he has continued adjusting his routines throughout his career to stay prepared whenever his number is called.
“A lot of the work that I do is supplementing timing,” Haase said. “A lot of velo machines, just trying to stay ready. My routine has constantly changed over the years depending on what my role is.”
The veteran also credited the Giants’ hitting coaches for helping simplify his mechanics and approach offensively.
“The hitting coaches here have just been creative in keeping things simple,” Haase said.
Even after the offensive outburst, Haase emphasized the importance of staying focused on helping the team continue building momentum rather than individual accomplishments.
“These guys work their tails off all day,” Haase said. “Things weren’t going our way for a long time, but the guys kept showing up, kept doing their routines, and now we’re kind of breaking through on the other side of that.”
With contributions throughout the lineup and improved clubhouse energy continuing to build, the Giants appear to be finding rhythm at an important point in the season.
