Early deficits and costly errors doomed the San Francisco Giants to a sixth straight series loss.

It's been far too long since the San Francisco Giants have won back-to-back games.

After winning yesterday's contest, 1-0, they fell to the Cleveland Guardians in the series finale, 5-2.

It marks their sixth consecutive series defeat, and this is a Giants team that hasn't won consecutive games since July 29-30.

Now 52-75, San Francisco is well aware this season is a lost cause, but they're doing everything they can to get some of the youngsters prepared for the future, as long as try to get their veteran core back on track.

Landen Roupp loses his 13th game of the year

Early deficits continue to haunt the Giants, and that once again got the best of them with Landen Roupp as their starter. The 27-year-old allowed not one, not two, but three runs in a horrendous first inning.

Roupp issued a six-pitch leadoff walk which turned into a pair of singles, and then a sacrifice fly. Once the Giants got two outs, the damage wasn't done as Patrick Bailey, a catcher they traded back in May, recorded an RBI single.

These would be the only three earned runs Roupp would allow in his 5.1-inning start, but it was yet another early deficit that proved to be too much to overcome.

Of the 26 batters he faced, Roupp only threw 11 first-pitch strikes. Falling behind in counts got the best of him, as seen with his four walks to just two strikeouts.

The only other run the Giants allowed was unearned, and it's worth noting their three remaining pitchers recorded four strikeouts without issuing any walks. The Giants will take these minor wins when they can get them, but Roupp simply hasn't been good enough this year, and that's one of many problems on this pitching staff.

Willy Adames crushes his 20th home run

San Francisco's only two runs were courtesy of Willy Adames, who went deep in the fourth inning. After Rafael Devers reached on a leadoff single, Adames blasted his 20th homer of the year on the first pitch he saw.

Adames' 418-foot blast put the Giants behind by only one run, but unearned runs in the sixth and eighth innings came back to haunt them.

Offensively, they had just five hits, and it comes as no surprise that the trio of Devers, Adames, and rookie sensation Bryce Eldridge accounted for three of those.

Their two errors were costly, to say the least, but even if those extra runs hadn't been scored, it's not like this offense did enough to get them back into the game.
