After surrendering just three runs over 38 dominant innings in June, the San Francisco Giants ace earns career-first honors before testing his 0.71 ERA in the thin Colorado air.
For the first time in his lengthy career, San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Logan Webb has been named National League Pitcher of the Month for June.
Webb is coming off an absolutely remarkable month of June, one that saw him post an ERA of just 0.71 in 38.0 innings.
The 29-year-old has been with the Giants since 2019, so finally, eight years later, he's earned a pitcher of the month honor.
Sustained success is the name of the game, and arguably no pitcher in baseball is hotter than Webb is right now. He's set to make his next start on Friday, July 3, in Colorado.
It's not like Coors Field has a reputation to be a pitcher's best friend, so it'll be interesting to see how the California native looks against the last-place Colorado Rockies.
Webb's Incredible Month
Webb made just two starts in the month of May. On Friday, May 29, his ERA sat at 4.82 after he gave up one earned run to the aforementioned Rockies in 4.1 innings.
Now, as June is over, his ERA sits at 3.09. Somehow, he managed to get it down nearly two full points, which goes to show just how incredible his month truly was.
Webb got off to a hot start with an astounding seven-inning start in Milwaukee. He allowed just one hit in a game where he struck out four and walked just one batter. At that point, he improved to 3-4.
Despite going eight innings on Monday, June 8, Webb didn't record a decision in his second start of the month. This would begin a span of three-straight eight-inning starts for the veteran, a span that saw him allow just three earned runs in those 24.0 innings.
Somehow, Webb went 1-1 in that 24-inning sample size. He recorded a win on Sunday, June 14, but took the loss on Sunday, June 21, despite allowing just two earned runs on five hits.
Webb finished the month with a bang as he went seven scoreless on Saturday, June 27. Thankfully, he picked up the win in that one as he now sits at 5-5 on the year.
Overall, Webb allowed just three earned runs in the month with a remarkable 29 strikeout to four walk ratio. To no surprise, Webb allowed just one home run in the month, a month that saw batters record just 19 hits in his 38.0 innings of work.
