Giants Must Attempt to Sign Morejón
Oct 23, 2026 2:39 PM

Adrian Morejón’s dominant track record at Oracle Park makes him the ideal solution for the San Francisco Giants' crumbling bullpen.

The San Francisco Giants have a bullpen problem that's going to require more than just one player to fix.

That said, one of the top relievers on the market is going to be Adrián Morejón, and it would be silly for the Giants to sit around and not try to sign him.

Obviously, Morejón is going to command a pretty penny, but rightfully so.

If San Francisco is afraid of spending money in free agency, they might as well just give up on the 2027 season before it even starts.

That's if there if a 2027 at all, but that's a conversation for another time.

Recently, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser noted that Morejón is going to become available, and it "would appear unlikely to command a closer's salary."

Suddenly, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter shed new light on the situation as Morejón isn't too far off from earning triple digits in free agency.

Giants may opt out if Morejón makes $90 million

The current projected contract for Morejón is five years, $90 million. The Giants aren't exactly paying anyone in their bullpen that currently, but with the way things went down a year ago, they probably should be.

Reuter is basing his contract off Tanner Scott's four-year, $72 million deal. He believes Morejón warrants an extra fifth year with a similar value, so that's where his projection came from.

If this is indeed the number Morejón ends up getting, it'll likely be a bit too much to ask of the Giants to go out and get him.

As always, there could be a case where the Giants are ready to make a big splash, and they present the best contract, only for Morejón to sign with another team.

Slusser named quite a few relievers for the Giants to go after, and while there are some tempting names on the list, Morejón stands above the rest.

Morejón would be a home run signing

Everything is going to come down to money, but to say the Giants need to bring in a player like Morejón this offseason would be an understatement.

San Francisco was a few losses shy of 100 this year, and while not all of the blame can be put on its bullpen, this is a group that blew far too many games this season.

Late in the year, when all of their injuries piled up offensively, they just didn't have the talent to get back into games when the bullpen was allowing runs left and right.

Morejón has a 2.58 ERA in his last 211 appearances with an astonishing 60 holds in that span. If that's not enough, he's coming off a year where he sported a career-high 11.2 K/9.

To further add fuel to the fire, he has just a career 1.23 ERA at Oracle Park.
