A stagnant lineup doomed the San Francisco Giants, and the Pittsburgh Pirates capitalized on seven walks en route to a three-run victory.

San Francisco fell to 58-83 on the year as the Pittsburgh Pirates took care of business, 5-2, to improve to 69-72.
Oddly enough, the Pirates scored their five runs on five hits. The game's lone error was against San Francisco, so only four of those were earned.
On paper, Blade Tidwell did a pretty solid job for the Giants. He allowed two earned runs on two hits in five innings of work, but he walked five batters, so that's definitely something he'll need to work on.
Sadly for the Giants, they were down 4-0 by the time they got on the board, and the Pirates made sure to add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to really put this one away.
Tidwell falls to 0-2
In total, the Giants pitching staff walked seven batters. Obviously, five of those are on Tidwell, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they walked seven Pirates and only struck out six.
Pittsburgh was extremely well disciplined in the series finale, and that's what helped lead them to a three-run victory.
The Pirates aren't completely out of the playoff hunt yet, as this win put them five games back of the final National League Wild Card spot. That's pretty impressive for a team that's three games under .500, and it's obviously much better than the Giants, who are second-to-last and now 16 games back of the playoffs.
It's been common knowledge for quite some time now that this version of the Giants wouldn't be making the playoffs. Two hits simply aren't going to cut it, and it was only a matter of time before Rafael Devers' hot streak came to an end.

For the second time in the last week and a half, Devers has had a home run streak come to an end in three consecutive games.
Obviously, it's incredible to think he's had six homers going back to August 24, but he was 0-for-4 in this one with three of the team's nine strikeouts.
Leadoff hitter Drew Gilbert had one of the Giants' two hits, with the only other belonging to pinch hitter Jung Hoo Lee.
Nate Furman joined the Giants pinch hitter as the two players to drive in runs, both of which came in the seventh inning.
