The San Francisco Giants’ offensive struggles continued Friday night as they fell 5-2 to the Colorado Rockies.

The San Francisco Giants’ recent slide continued Friday night as their offensive struggles once again proved costly in a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Oracle Park.

San Francisco managed only four hits against Colorado starter Kyle Freeland, who kept the Giants in check throughout the night while working eight innings. The loss dropped the Giants to seven defeats in their last 10 games as they continue to search for consistency at the plate.

The Giants found themselves playing from behind early after Colorado opened the scoring in the fourth inning. San Francisco answered in the bottom of the half when Bryce Eldridge continued his recent power surge with a solo home run.

The homer was Eldridge’s second in his last three games, providing one of the few offensive highlights for the Giants. However, San Francisco struggled to build on the momentum and remained limited to sporadic opportunities against Freeland.

Colorado regained the lead in the fifth inning when Brett Sullivan scored on a sharply hit grounder from Mickey Moniak. The Rockies then extended their advantage in the sixth when Zac Veen launched a home run into McCovey Cove, putting San Francisco in a three-run hole.

Colorado would again add to the deficit in the ninth, which would deter any comeback in this game. Although Rafael Devers provided a late spark in the ninth with an RBI double, it would be too little, too late for the Giants to make it interesting in the final half.

Landen Roupp delivered a competitive start but ultimately took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits across 5.2 innings. He struck out five and walked one while attempting to keep San Francisco within striking distance.

The Giants’ bullpen kept the game from getting further out of hand for much of the evening, but the lack of offensive production left little room for error.

San Francisco will look to rebound Saturday with Logan Webb taking the mound. Webb enters with a 7-7 record and a 3.59 ERA and will face Michael Lorenzen as the Giants attempt to even the series.

Webb has seemed to continue a very positive trend since entering the month of August, after a very difficult stretch in July. Webb, in his last start against the Detroit Tigers on August 9, pitched 8.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits.

With the Giants continuing to struggle over their last 10 games, Saturday presents another opportunity for the club to generate some momentum and prevent the series from slipping away.
