The San Francisco Giants eye staying out of the National League West basement, facing a struggling Colorado Rockies' rotation headlined by the surging Ryan Feltner and two vulnerable right-handers.
Instead of doing a usual starting pitching preview, this will instead focus on the Colorado Rockies three starters and who the San Francisco Giants will be seeing during Fourth of July weekend.
The Giants have won three of their last five, and are coming off a win that led into their off-day on Thursday, July 2. Now, they're tasked with playing 10 straight games to end the first half of the 2026 season. Of the 10 games they're playing, six of those are going to be against the Rockies.
If there was ever a time to stack up wins, it's now. San Francisco, at the very least, should be able to snag a few victories and give them some breathing room as they're currently only 2.0 games in front of the Rockies in fourth place in the National League West Division.
Game One Starter: Ryan Feltner
San Francisco heads to Coors Field to finish a six-game road trip, one that sees the Rockies welcome the Giants with Feltner. The 29-year-old righty is 2-2 on the year with a 4.42 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
Currently in his sixth year with the Rockies, Feltner has made double-digit starts for the fourth time in his career. His 1.3 WAR is the highest it's been, so that says a lot about what the Giants should expect in the series opener.
Tomoyuki Sugano Earns Fourth of July Start
The 36-year-old is 8-4 with a 4.80 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in his 16 starts this season. Don't let Sugano's age fool you, this is only his second season in the MLB. Last year, he made 30 starts and was 10-10 with a 4.64 ERA as part of the Baltimore Orioles organization.
Sugano got exposed in his last start, one that saw him go 5.0 innings but allow eight hits and seven earned runs. He's allowed at least one home run in his last four games, and he's allowed seven or more runs in two of his last three starts.
Tanner Gordon Closes Things Out
Gordon, 28, rounds out a trio of righties that the Giants will see in Colorado. The Illinois native is 0-2 with a 6.69 ERA and will be making just his fourth start of the season.
Similar to Sugano, Gordon has been picked apart in his last few starts. He's given up 10 runs in his last three, and has given up 20 earned runs in his last six appearances dating back to Saturday, May 9.
