The San Francisco Giants roster keeps getting depleted as they will be without Bryce Eldridge in their next series.
The San Francisco Giants are stuck facing Cincinnati Reds ace Chase Burns in the series opener, and now fans have learned they're going to be without star rookie Bryce Eldridge for all three games.
Eldridge isn't dealing with an injury; instead, the team is giving him the series off so he can attend his grandfather's funeral.
At this time, no exact timetable for his return has been revealed, but San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin first broke the news that he would be placed on the bereavement list.
Keep in mind, this team is still awaiting MRI results for Willy Adames and Victor Bericoto, so it could be a very depleted squad that does battle against Cincinnati.
Giants must move forward without Eldridge
The biggest thing the Giants know they need to focus on the rest of this season is how much attention they're putting into these young players.
Eldridge is undoubtedly one of those, and he's absolutely lived up to the hype this season. San Francisco's season is a lost cause; there's no chance they make the playoffs, but they could still play spoiler to a team like the Reds.
Moving forward, it's important for the Giants to at least know that Eldridge isn't out for the long haul. Whatever adjustments manager Tony Vitello makes should only be for a maximum of three games spanning from August 24-26.
The timing of Eldridge's placement on bereavement works out in the team's favor as they're scheduled to play seven straight games at home. San Francisco is in the midst of a brutal 13-game stretch in 12 days, which ends in a doubleheader on August 29 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, another team fighting to earn a Wild Card spot.
Eldridge's rookie season has lived up to the hype
Truth be told, there isn't much that has gone right for the Giants here in 2026. Eldridge may only be 21-years-old, but he's given not only this fanbase but the organization hope that things will indeed be alright as the front office and everyone involved with the Giants look ahead to 2027 and beyond.
The Virginia native is currently sitting at 14 home runs, which is good for fourth on the team.
He's slashing .252/.346/.435 with a tremendous .781 OPS to go along with his 1.1 WAR.
Keep in mind, this team's top WAR players are Luis Arraez, someone who was traded, and Matt Chapman, a veteran who's on the 60-day Injured List.
Currently, the only offensive players who are valued higher than Eldridge are Jung Hoo Lee, Casey Schmitt (someone who's also on the IL), Adames, and Rafael Devers.
