After years of climbing through multiple organizations, right-hander Wilkin Ramos has earned his first trip to the major leagues for San Francisco Giants.
The San Francisco Giants are turning to one of their most unexpected success stories of the 2026 season, promoting right-handed pitcher Wilkin Ramos to the major-league roster for the first time in his professional career.
Ramos, 25, is set to make his MLB debut after impressing the organization during the first two months of the season at Triple-A Sacramento.
The promotion marks a significant milestone for a pitcher whose professional journey has included multiple organizations, roster setbacks, and years spent working his way through the minor leagues.
Long Road to the Big Leagues
Originally signed by the Athletics as an international free agent in 2017, Ramos spent several seasons developing within the Athletics farm system before becoming part of a trade with the Giants organization.
His progression through the minors was gradual and, by the end of the 2022 season, he had yet to advance beyond Single-A competition.
The New York Mets selected Ramos during the minor-league phase of the Rule 5 Draft, giving him a fresh opportunity. He eventually reached Triple-A, but results at the upper levels were inconsistent.
After posting elevated earned run averages across multiple seasons, Ramos twice entered minor-league free agency while searching for a path back toward the majors.
The Giants saw enough potential to offer him a minor league contract before the 2026 campaign, a decision that has paid off in a big way.
Breakout Season in Sacramento
Ramos has been one of Sacramento’s most dependable bullpen arms this year. Working primarily in a multi-inning relief role, he has consistently limited damage while generating weak contact and keeping the ball on the ground.
His combination of strike-throwing ability and heavy sink has helped him emerge as a reliable option capable of covering multiple innings. Ramos has also shown improved command compared to previous seasons, allowing him to work efficiently through opposing lineups.
The right-hander's repertoire includes a fastball and sinker that both sit in the mid-90s, complemented by a breaking ball that has become an effective secondary weapon.
Opportunity in a Stable Bullpen
Despite significant turnover over the past year, the Giants' bullpen has remained one of the steadier units in the National League. Injuries and departures forced the front office to piece together the relief corps during the offseason, but the group has largely delivered solid results.
Now Ramos will get an opportunity to contribute to that success. With minor-league options available, the Giants can be flexible with his role moving forward, but his strong performance in Sacramento for the River Cats has earned him the chance to prove he belongs at the highest level.
For Ramos, the promotion represents the culmination of nearly a decade of persistence and a chance to transform an unlikely journey into a major-league career.
