After 417 days away, the San Francisco Giants' hard-throwing reliever is electrifying the Arizona Fall League.

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, right-handed pitcher Randy Rodriguez returned to the mound for his first appearance in 13 months.

The 2025 San Francisco Giants All-Star missed just over a year due to Tommy John surgery, but the 27-year-old is back in business.

On Monday, Oct. 19, he touched 98 mph in the Arizona Fall League, proving it didn't take him long at all to settle back into live action.

Further proving that point, he pitched a one-two-three inning in his first start back the week prior.

His 11-pitch outing for the Scottsdale Scorpions went according to plan, and it was crazy to see his velocity rise from 95.9 mph to 98 mph between starts.

Giants had to wait 417 days for Rodriguez to return

The magic number for Rodriguez is 417, as that's the number of days he had between appearances.

The last time he stepped on the mound for the Giants was on Aug. 22, 2025, when he allowed a solo homer in his one inning of work.

That was the lone run he allowed in August, though that 15-pitch outing is what put him on the shelf for over a year.

It's no secret just how much this Giants bullpen has struggled, but Rodriguez is doing everything he can to come back in 2027.

These Fall League appearances have been a huge boost, not just mentally, but also from a physical standpoint.

No one expected him to be throwing 98 mph in his second appearance, but that goes to show just how good the Dominican Republic native really is.

Rodriguez made his MLB debut on May 4, 2024, but posted a 4.30 ERA in his 30 appearances. Sure, he was 3-2, but he was a -0.2 WAR player and had just a 2.9 K/BB ratio.

In the offseason, everything changed. The 6-foot reliever began to put it all together, and suddenly he had a 1.78 ERA and stellar 0.89 WHIP throughout the 2025 season.

Keep in mind, those numbers came in no shortage of sample size. Rodriguez appeared in a career-high 50 games, and he may have only gone 3-5, but he improved his K/BB ratio to 6.1, a number that would've rivaled any Giants pitcher here in 2026.

Opponents hit just .187 against Rodriguez in '25, and the Giants would love to see him return in '27, give this bullpen a boost, and potentially even become a two-time All-Star.
