The San Francisco Giants will send eight total prospects to the Arizona Fall League.
The San Francisco Giants will have plenty to watch when the Arizona Fall League gets underway, with eight prospects set to continue their development in Scottsdale this fall.
The group includes four players ranked among the Giants’ top 30 prospects, giving the organization another opportunity to evaluate some of its most intriguing young talent against competition from around baseball.
Outfielder Dakota Jordan headlines the Giants’ contingent as the organization’s No. 7 prospect. Jordan brings one of the most exciting combinations of power and speed in the system, with double-plus raw power giving him the potential to become an impact offensive player.
His athleticism should make him one of the more interesting Giants players to follow in Arizona.
Right-hander Miguel Mendez, ranked No. 16 in the organization, will also get an opportunity to build on his development after joining the Giants during the season. San Francisco acquired Mendez as part of the trade package that sent left-hander Robbie Ray to the San Diego Padres organization at the MLB Trade Deadline.
Mendez has the type of fastball that can immediately stand out. His heater can reach 101 mph, while his mid-80s slider gives him another weapon with which to attack hitters. The Fall League should provide an important test as the Giants continue determining how his arsenal could ultimately fit into their pitching plans.
Infielder Kaeden Kent is another midseason acquisition who will suit up for Scottsdale.
Kent, ranked No. 20 among Giants prospects, arrived from the New York Yankees in the deal involving Heliot Ramos. The organization views him primarily as a second baseman, though he has experience at shortstop as well.
There is an interesting connection to the Giants with Kent. His father, Jeff Kent, spent much of his Hall of Fame career at second base and became one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.
The younger Kent will now have another stage to establish himself within the Giants’ system.
Right-hander Alexander Fuentes rounds out the Giants’ four players ranked inside the organization’s top 30. Fuentes is currently ranked No. 26 and represents an intriguing pitching project after signing with San Francisco out of Venezuela in 2023 for $17,500.
Fuentes is viewed as a likely future reliever, although his development could give the Giants another potentially useful arm if his fastball and slider continue to progress.
The Giants’ remaining Fall League representatives are right-handers Drake George, Randy Rodriguez and Darien Smith, along with infielder Dalton Wentz, who has experience at both third and second base.
The Arizona Fall League begins Oct. 3 and runs through Nov. 14, giving the Giants’ prospects several additional weeks of competitive baseball after the conclusion of the regular Minor League season. The Fall Stars Game is scheduled for Nov. 8 at Salt River Fields.
For San Francisco, the Fall League should provide another look at several players who could become increasingly important to the organization’s future. Jordan’s power and athleticism, Mendez’s pitching arsenal, Kent’s offensive profile and Fuentes’ developing stuff give the Giants a diverse group of prospects worth following throughout the fall.
