The San Francisco Giants face the National League Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game series.
To this point, the Milwaukee Brewers are going to be the San Francisco Giants' toughest test following the All-Star break.
Obviously, the Los Angeles Dodgers will eat up six of the Giants' final nine games, but that's not something San Francisco has to worry about until mid-September.
Here on Monday, July 27, a struggling 44-61 team is set to begin a three-game slate with the National League Central-leading Brewers, a team that continues to give the Dodgers a run for their money as to which team has the best record in all of baseball.
Monday, July 27
Brandon Sproat (3-5, 5.09 ERA) vs. Tyler Mahle (2-9, 5.31 ERA)
At just 25 years old, Brandon Sproat has given the Brewers a new option in the starting rotation after the team lost the likes of Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester. The Florida native is coming off a 4.2-inning start where he took his fifth loss of the year, despite allowing just two runs to score.
Tyler Mahle looked tremendous on Saturday, July 11, but ended up taking the loss in his first start of the second half. He's now one loss shy of double digits, a number no starter wants to have before the calendar flips to August.
Tuesday, July 28
Logan Henderson (4-1, 3.05 ERA) vs. Landen Roupp (7-8, 3.93 ERA)
When healthy, Logan Henderson shows he has the tools to be one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. The 24-year-old has picked up victories in four of his last five starts, all of which have gone at least 5.0 innings. He's as consistent as it gets, but he did give up a pair of solo homers in his latest start on Wednesday, July 22.
Landen Roupp had won two consecutive games, but the Giants didn't give him enough run support on July 22. Despite going six innings in a game where he struck out seven, allowed just four hits, and two earned runs, he didn't record a decision. His season ERA is still a bit high, but through three starts in July he's allowed just two runs, which comes out to a 1.29 ERA.
Wednesday, July 29
Shane Drohan (5-4, 3.51 ERA) vs. Logan Webb (5-7, 3.98 ERA)
Shane Drohan will be making his 12th start in his 22nd appearance of the season. Seeing as he's 2-2 in his last four, the Giants have no idea which version of Drohan to expect, but similar to Henderson, he's extremely consistent. Drohan has gone six-plus innings in his last four starts, but he did just allow a season-high five earned runs on Friday, July 24.
Logan Webb should help the Giants manage this 13-game stretch as he's also no stranger to going deep into ballgames. After back-to-back six-plus-inning starts where he didn't record a decision in either game, San Francisco would love to end this series on a high note and get Webb closer to being .500 once again.
