The San Francisco Giants clarify their deadline strategy, signaling outfielder Heliot Ramos is available for trade.
The San Francisco Giants are expected to become sellers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline, with players such as Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray seemingly available.
There are plenty of other names who could attract interest. Jung Hoo Lee, Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, and several others could become intriguing trade targets as San Francisco evaluates its roster.
However, a new report provides more clarity regarding two Giants outfielders.
According to Bob Nightengale from USA TODAY, San Francisco does not plan to trade Lee this summer and is instead willing to move Heliot Ramos.
Nightengale reported that the Giants have informed interested teams that Lee is staying while Ramos is available.
“The San Francisco Giants are telling teams that right fielder Jung Hoo Lee is staying, but they will move left fielder Heliot Ramos,” Nightengale wrote.
That represents a significant development before the deadline. Lee now appears likely to remain in San Francisco, while the possibility of Ramos being traded has increased considerably.
The 26-year-old remains under club control through the 2029 season. Ramos is hitting .257 with nine home runs, 31 RBIs and a .722 OPS in 69 games this season. He missed a chunk of the year due to a right quad strain.
His availability could immediately attract several contenders.
Who could trade for Ramos?
The Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, and Seattle Mariners are among the teams that could benefit from adding another right-handed offensive threat. All three could use additional production from that side of the plate, with the outfield representing a logical area for improvement.
Other teams could enter the market as well, including the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.
Ramos should generate significant interest, potentially giving the Giants an opportunity to secure a strong return package for the right-handed-hitting outfielder.
Acquiring him will not be inexpensive.
Ramos is a former All-Star who combines youth, power, right-handed hitting, and multiple remaining seasons of team control. In a particularly weak market for available outfielders, he may now represent the best option teams can realistically acquire.
That scarcity could make this an ideal time for San Francisco to trade him.
With several contenders searching for outfield help, competition for Ramos could create a bidding war and increase the return the Giants receive before the deadline.
Ramos’ trade value
Ramos brings more than simply offensive upside. His combination of physical strength and bat speed gives him the ability to impact a game immediately. And his experience across the outfield provides additional flexibility for an acquiring team.
He has also demonstrated resilience throughout his career. Ramos spent years attempting to establish himself after arriving in the organization with considerable expectations, eventually developing into an All-Star-caliber player rather than allowing early struggles to define him.
That persistence matters for contenders because deadline acquisitions must adjust quickly to unfamiliar surroundings and increased expectations.
Ramos also offers something especially valuable in the current market: Legitimate upside without being a short-term rental. An acquiring team would have time to integrate him into its lineup rather than viewing him solely as an October addition.
His age, power potential, defensive flexibility, and experience make him the type of player who could help immediately while remaining an important piece for several seasons.
