Logan Webb’s uneven start to the season continued as the Giants’ offense failed to capitalize.
The San Francisco Giants handed the ball to Logan Webb in the second game of their nine-game road trip, but the right-hander was unable to deliver the steady outing the club needed against the Baltimore Orioles in a 6-2 loss.
Webb worked six innings, allowing five hits and four earned runs while issuing three walks and striking out six. Despite moments where his command looked sharp, lapses in execution once again proved costly.
The outing marked another uneven performance in what has been a shaky opening stretch for Webb. He now sits at 1-2 on the season with a 5.25 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP, numbers that reflect his ongoing battle to find consistency.
While there is no long-term concern surrounding his ability or role atop the rotation, this recent stretch has highlighted the need for sharper command and more efficient innings moving forward.
Offense Unable to Capitalize
On the offensive side, the Giants struggled to take advantage of their opportunities despite collecting 10 hits. Facing Chris Bassitt, the lineup managed just two runs, only one of which was earned, failing to generate sustained pressure throughout the game.
The lone notable contribution came in the second inning when Heliot Ramos delivered an RBI single to put the Giants on the board. Outside of that moment, the offense lacked impact, with minimal traffic turning into scoring chances.
Hits were scattered across the lineup, but the inability to string together quality at-bats ultimately limited any chance of a comeback.
Bullpen Allows Game to Slip Away
After Webb’s departure, the Giants bullpen was unable to keep the deficit manageable. Caleb Killian surrendered a solo home run in the seventh inning, extending Baltimore’s lead and halting any potential momentum shift.
Ryan Borucki followed in the eighth and allowed an additional run, effectively putting the game out of reach. The Giants' bullpen has been a struggle pretty much the entire season, with little consistency. Those same struggles would come to light in this matchup.
Looking Ahead
The 6-2 loss underscores a combination of issues for the Giants, including inconsistent starting pitching from Webb and a quiet offensive approach. As the road trip continues, finding rhythm both on the mound and at the plate will be critical if the club hopes to turn things around in the coming games.
