The San Francisco Giants looked destined for another frustrating defeat Wednesday afternoon before authoring one of their most memorable wins of the season.

Trailing by as many as eight runs, the Giants rallied for an 11-10 walk-off victory over the Washington Nationals, punctuated by Bryce Eldridge's game-ending grand slam.

Following the game, veteran third baseman Matt Chapman spoke with NBC Sports Bay Area about the club's resilience and the emergence of one of baseball's brightest young talents.

"It's hard to figure out what to say after that game," Chapman said. "It was unbelievable."

The comeback came after consecutive difficult losses and at the end of a demanding stretch of games. Chapman admitted it would have been easy for the Giants to let the game slip away when they fell behind early.

"We could have easily been down 9-1 or 10-1 and rolled over," Chapman said. "We didn't. We kept battling."

Instead, San Francisco chipped away at the deficit before setting the stage for Eldridge's heroics in the ninth inning.

While the walk-off grand slam will dominate the headlines, Chapman said what has stood out most about Eldridge is the way he carries himself.

"I'm super impressed with the way that he carries himself and his confidence," Chapman said. "It's not arrogance. He's confident and believes in himself."

According to Chapman, Eldridge's performance has exceeded expectations since arriving in the majors. The veteran noted the rookie's consistency, quality at-bats, and ability to learn from difficult moments.

Just two nights earlier, Eldridge struck out in a key situation to end a game. Chapman recalled speaking with him afterward and encouraging him to stay prepared for the next opportunity.

"We were talking a little bit after the game about how he's going to get so many more opportunities like this," Chapman said. "Sure enough, he comes up today and hits a walk-off grand slam."

Chapman added that Eldridge embraces pressure rather than shying away from it.

"You can tell that he wants to be up there and wants to be the guy to do it," Chapman said.

At only 21 years old, Eldridge continues to display a level of maturity that has impressed teammates throughout the clubhouse.

"When I was his age, I wasn't ready," Chapman admitted. "It's really cool to see his maturity and his ability to make adjustments."

Chapman pointed to Eldridge's ability to move past unsuccessful at-bats and remain focused on the next challenge, a trait that often separates good players from great ones.

For Chapman, Wednesday's dramatic finish served as another glimpse into what could be a bright future for the Giants' young slugger.

"Just excited to see what the future holds for him," Chapman said.
