Robbie Ray has emerged as one of the most intriguing trade candidates as the San Francisco Giants approach the August 3 MLB trade deadline.

With the team evaluating its direction for the remainder of the season, the veteran left-hander represents one of several players who could generate interest from contenders looking to strengthen their pitching staff.

That leaves San Francisco with an important decision.

“Ray — an All-Star in 2025 — is earning $25 million in the final year of his contract, and if San Francisco is willing to pick up part of his remaining salary, there should be a number of contenders open to adding him to the middle of their rotation for the stretch run,” Feinsand wrote.

Ray has continued to produce despite some underlying concerns.

He’s 8-6 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 106.2 innings over 19 appearances (18 starts) this season, with 90 strikeouts.

Some aspects of Ray’s performance have declined compared to previous seasons, including his velocity and walk rate.

Even so, his overall production has remained strong enough to maintain value on the trade market.

That combination makes him an interesting case.

Teams searching for reliable rotation depth may focus more on the results than the warning signs.

For the Giants, the financial side of any potential deal could ultimately become just as important as the prospect return.

If absorbing part of Ray’s salary increases the number of interested teams, San Francisco could create a stronger market for one of its most valuable trade chips.

Whether the Giants ultimately decide to move Ray remains uncertain.

The organization’s position in the standings will continue influencing that decision.

San Francisco currently owns a 41-55 record, placing the team fourth in the National League West.

If the front office commits to selling before the deadline, Ray figures to remain one of the most closely watched veterans on the roster.
