San Francisco Giants general manager Zack Minasian said the organization prioritized roster depth, clubhouse energy this offseason.

The San Francisco Giants entered the offseason determined to build a roster that could better withstand the grind of a 162-game season.

Speaking recently with MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Giants general manager Zack Minasian explained that organizational depth became the primary focus after a 2025 campaign that featured a strong start and finish but faltered in the middle stretch, ultimately leaving the club short of October baseball.

“Yeah, I think so,” Minasian said when asked if depth was a priority. “We really focused on just trying to get deeper this offseason, and really, there was no move too big or too small for us to explore.”

While headline additions such as Willy Adames and Rafael Devers drew significant attention, Minasian stressed that complementary pieces were just as critical to constructing a sustainable roster.

“Some of the moves that maybe go unheralded, like Will Brennan, or Jason Foley, or Sam Hentges, those don’t get a lot of headlines," he said.

“But trying to make those moves so they can go along with some of the bigger moves we’ve made … hopefully make us a more complete and deep routine that can sustain playing good baseball throughout the season.”

Minasian acknowledged last season’s inconsistency as motivation.

“We had an up and down year, great start, strong finish, but just in the middle, didn’t play to the point we needed to play to, and ended up outside of October,” he said. “So, hopefully, a deeper, more complete team is what we get.”

Beyond roster construction, Minasian highlighted the tone being set internally by manager Tony Vitello.

“I think Tony and the coaching staff have set a great tone,” Minasian said. “Rafael Devers has got a big smile on his face. He’s out there working hard at first base. Luis Arraez is coming in after what he’s advertised — leadership and energy — and he’s out there working hard.”

He also pointed to Adames’ personality and the daily consistency of players like Matt Chapman and Logan Webb, along with newcomer Harrison Bader.

“It’s a lot of guys who really enjoy playing baseball,” Minasian said. “We have a ton of energy in camp, and hopefully we can carry that into the season and keep it going.”

As for expectations, Minasian avoided specific win totals but made the organizational goal clear.

“Well, we want to play championship-caliber baseball,” Minasian said.

“It’s difficult to set win total expectations, but I think we’re fortunate to have a tremendous fan base, and at the end of the season, they’ll tell us a lot."

For the Giants, the blueprint is clear: Build deeper, play harder, and aim for October.
