Guardians Freeman records three straight multi-hit games including a HR and five RBI's in opening series
Cleveland Guardians 23-year-old infield prospect Tyler Freeman would be the first to tell you he didn't have the spring training he was hoping for trying while trying to land a spot on the 2023 Opening Day roster.
Freeman obviously is not letting it affect him to much collecting three straight multi-hit games to start the season for Triple-A Columbus. In the three games on the road against Iowa he went 6-for-13 (.462 AVG) with a double, home run, five runs scored and five runs batted in.
In 2022 Freeman made his MLB debut with the Guardians where he hit for a (19-77) .247 average over 24 games played. Coming into spring training Freeman was battling teammate Gabriel Arias for the utility player spot on the 2023 MLB roster. Arias had a terrific spring and was awarded the job.
For Freeman the door is definitely not closed as far as seeing time up with the big-league club this year. If an injury occurs to any of the starting infielders or if Arias struggles, he should be the first man up from Triple-A Columbus to fill in.
There is an old adage in baseball, if you can hit, they will find a spot for you. For now, all Freeman can do is continue to get his reps and impress while at Columbus and wait for his opportunity to open up.
