Guardians Rookie Pitcher Lands on Injured List in New Roster Moves cover image

One of the Cleveland Guardians’ brightest young arms will be down for multiple weeks with an injury.

The Cleveland Guardians are already in a tight position heading into the final stretch of the season, as they’ve just begun a stint of 17 straight games in 17 days.

They’ve already taken precautions to keep the pitching staff healthy and rested during this grueling stretch by going with a six-man rotation, but one of their promising bullpen arms has now landed on the injured list in Cleveland’s recent roster moves.

Nic Enright Paced On 15-Day Injured List

The Guardians announced on Thursday that they’ve placed Nic Enright on the 15-day injured list with right elbow/forearm inflammation, retroactive to Wednesday.

The rookie pitcher has been a true bright spot for Cleveland’s bullpen this season, and losing him for what could end up being the rest of the season is quite a blow.

Enright has pitched in 27 games this year, totaling 31.0 innings. In those appearances, the right-hander has a 2.03 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He even picked up his first career save during Cleveland’s shocking sweep over the New York Mets at the beginning of August.

Cleveland hasn’t shared the severity of the injury just yet. Hopefully, it is just inflammation that needs rest more than anything to heal, because everyone’s head immediately goes to the worst-case scenario when a pitcher starts experiencing elbow and forearm pain.

Plus, Enright doesn’t deserve another hurdle in his MLB career after being diagnosed with cancer nearly three years ago.

Zak Kent Recalled From Triple-A

Taking Enright’s spot on the big-league roster is Zak Kent, who most recently pitched for the Guardians in two of their games against the Boston Red Sox.

In those two outs against the American League East opponent, Kent pitched 2.1 innings, and gave up zero runs, but only struck out one batter and issued one walk.

Kent’s season stats don’t look great this season, but he has pitched in some pretty tough spots for the Guardians. In six games this year, Kent has a 4.66 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP.

Cleveland will likely need one of their pitchers to throw a multi-inning effort between now and the end of their 17-game stretch, and Kent is a perfect candidate to fill that role.
