The Cleveland Guardians tie up their series with the Minnesota Twins with a one-run victory.
It sure feels good to grab a win!
It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Cleveland Guardians but there is one cure that always works. That's winning, and Cleveland did just that with a 4-3 victory over the Twins to even up the series on Saturday night.
Cleveland got the bats going with a couple of runs batted in from Josh Bell and a Myles Straw walk which scored Josh Naylor.
The biggest run of them all was Steven Kwan's home run in the seventh inning which put the Guardians back on top.
Minnesota was thriving with the long ball on Saturday night too. Max Kepler hit another home run a Progressive Field and Carlos Correa hit a no-doubter. Kwan's home run came right after Correa's which squashed the Twin's momentum.
Even though the Guardians scored four runs, they only had five hits. Work still needs to get done to bring this offense to where it needs to be but this is a fantastic stepping stone.
The starting pitching was once again a strong area for this Guardians team. Logan Allen made his third career start and he continues to show why the organization has been so high on him for years.
Allen pitched 5.2 innings striking out three and giving up two runs. He wasn't as sharp as in his first two starts, but we can't expect him to strikeouts out eight batters every time he pitches. It was a quality start nonetheless.
Sam Hentges also made his long-awaited season debut after dealing with shoulder inflammation during the first month. He struck out the only two batters he faced and looks ready to be the team's go-to set-up man.
Cleveland has a chance to take their first series win in over a month on Sunday as they have Cal Quantrill on the mound for the series finale.
