Cleveland Guardians second ranked prospect George Valera ejected after altercation with Nashville Sounds catcher.
Tensions were high in Minor League action on Thursday night!
The Columbus Clippers were in Nashville taking on the Sounds, an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Highly ranked Cleveland Guardians prospect, George Valera and the Sounds' Alex Jackson got into an altercation that led to a benches-clearing incident.
Valera and Jackson appeared to exchange words before the pitch was thrown. The umpire attempted to pull the Clippers outfielder away from the situation. However, Valera retaliated which led to the benches-clearing brawl.
Sometimes benches-clearing incidents only result in some words being said or light shoving, but this looked different. Valera clearly took exception to what Jackson said, so much so that he shoved the official to get the Sounds catcher.
Both Valera and Jackson were ejected from the game.
Valera has only played in 20 games for the Clippers this season due to injury. He's slashing .176/.311/.216 with an OPS of .527 in those handful of games. The prospect, who is known for his pop, has yet to hit a home run this season.
This is certainly not a great look for the Guardians' second-ranked prospect.
Many thought that Valera could reach the Big Leagues by the end of this season because of Cleveland's dire need for a consistent power-hitting outfielder. However, this situation could make the organization rethink whether he is ready for the high stakes of the Big Leagues.
