The Cleveland Guardians get swept by the New York Mets.
That's not much analysis to be done on this series.
The Cleveland Guardians held the lead in each of their three games against the New York Mets but gave it up late and could never recover. New York went on to win all three games against the Guardians as Cleveland gets swept for the first time this season.
The nail in the coffin was Sunday's doubleheader. Tanner Bibee and Shane Bieber both had fantastic starts, but the offense didn't give them the support they needed in order to come away with the win.
Bibee pitched six innings allowing just two runs on seven hits. His command wasn't as strong as we've seen it in the past as he walked four batters, but he was able to get out of trouble he found himself in.
Bieber was even better in the nightcap. He pitched eight innings, struck out four, and only allowed two runs as well. The clincher was a solo home run by Francisco Lindor (of course) in the eighth inning.
The only run Cleveland scored in the second game was a mammoth home run by Jose Ramirez. However, the third baseman can't do it all. Outside of J-Ram the Guardians only had two hits.
Terry Francona stressed after both games that the team needs to find consistency by putting it all together at the same time. When the offense is slow, the pitching is on. When the bats are shining, the pitching struggles.
That's not a great recipe to win games.
It's becoming clear that this lineup or mix just isn't working. Cleveland needs to address their offensive woes before the season fully gets away from them with over 100 games still to play.
