Logan Allen strikes out 10 Baltimore Orioles in his seventh career start for the Cleveland Guardians.
There's plenty of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Cleveland Guardians' starting rotation. They'll have Triston McKenzie and Aaron Civale coming back shortly which will force the Guardians to make some tough decisions with the pitching staff.
One choice that'll be pretty easy is keeping Logan Allen in that starting rotation.
He's been nothing short of consistent and at times dominant since making his Big League debut. In that first appearance, Allen struck out eight Marlins hitters and followed that up with another eight-strikeout performance against the Red Sox.
That remained his career high through his next four starts, which then brings us to May 29 against the Baltimore Orioles.
Allen pitched a master class through seven innings where he didn't give up a single run and only allowed three hits and two walks. He also punched out double-digit batters for the first time in his career.
These 10 strikeouts are now Allen's new career high. Not too bad for a rookie in their seventh career start.
He threw his fastball the most, which complimented perfectly with his two offspeed pitches of a sweeper and changeup. In total, Allen got Baltimore hitters to whiff at 19 of his pitches, per Baseball Savant.
Allen said after the game that,
He also joked that he's more pleased with a new career high in inning pitched than strikeouts, but I think he's pretty happy with both!
Allen just keeps getting better and better with each start. Fans are watching the development of who could be an outstanding Guardians pitcher for years to come.
