MLB.com ranks the Cleveland Guardians as having the fourth best bullpen in MLB.
The Cleveland Guardians surprised everyone in 2022 and had one of the best bullpens in all of baseball. They even held a streak of 32.1 frames which they didn't allow in August.
They will have some familiar names in the bullpen to start 2023 and some new names as well. This is what Cleveland's relief staff will look like on Opening Day with their 2022 ERA.
- Eli Morgan RHP - 3.38 ERA
- Enyel De Los Santos RHP - 3.04
- Emmanuel Clase RHP - 1.36
- Hunter Gaddis RHP - 18.41 (in two starts as a starter)
- James Karinchak RHP - 2.08
- Nick Sandlin RHP - 2.25
- Tim Herrin LHP - N/A
- Trevor Stephan RHP - 2.69
This list doesn't even include left-handed pitcher Sam Hentges who will start the season on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. He posted a 2.32 ERA last season.
But, how does this stack up against the rest of baseball? MLB.com shed a little light on where the Guardians' bullpen ranks compared to the rest of the league. They rated Cleveland as having the fourth-best bullpen heading into 2023.
The teams that were ranked above them are the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, and the Houston Astros. So, this also means that the Guardians have the second-best bullpen in the American League according to their rating.
No other team in the American League Central even cracked the top 10 list.
Pitching is always what Cleveland has been known for. In the past, it's been their starters who've stolen the show at the national level and now the bullpen is beginning to receive that same recognition.
